Fistula and piles surgery, also known as fistulotomy and hemorrhoidectomy, respectively, are surgical procedures performed to treat two common conditions affecting the anal region: anal fistulas and hemorrhoids (piles).
An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel-like tract that forms between the anal canal and the skin near the anus, usually as a result of a previous anal abscess. Fistulotomy involves making an incision along the fistula tract to drain any abscesses and remove the diseased tissue, allowing for proper healing and closure of the fistula.
Hemorrhoids, on the other hand, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that can cause discomfort, bleeding, and itching. Hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove hemorrhoids, either internally (inside the rectum) or externally (around the anus), to alleviate symptoms and prevent recurrence.
Both fistula and piles surgery may be performed using traditional open techniques or minimally invasive approaches such as laser surgery or stapled hemorrhoidopexy. The choice of surgical technique depends on factors such as the severity of the condition, patient preferences, and the surgeon's expertise.
