Stoma Specialist

A stoma specialist, also known as an enterostomal therapist or ostomy nurse, is a highly trained healthcare professional specializing in the care and management of patients with stomas. A stoma is a surgically created opening in the abdomen that allows for the diversion of urine or feces when normal bowel or bladder function is compromised due to conditions such as colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or trauma.

Stoma specialists play a critical role in assisting patients before, during, and after stoma surgery. They provide education and support to help patients and their families understand the surgical procedure, adjust to life with a stoma, and learn proper stoma care techniques.
